Religious view is one of the many root causes that prevents marriage equality across the United States. There are many people who are afraid to make change to the old fashion definition of marriage, where they believe only a man and a woman can marry each other. Unfortunately there are groups of people that believe that God will punish those who marry a person of the same sex. They believe that a child should be raised by a mother and a father. “Americans are more likely to say that religious liberties are more important for the government to protect than the rights of gays and lesbians, by a 56 percent to 40 percent margin, the poll found. Just a quarter of Americans call gay rights a very or extremely important issue to them personally, while half call religious liberties a very or extremely important issue.” Those that are against it marriage equality often argue that “same-sex relationships are immoral, and is against God's will and subvert the goal of human sexuality, which is to produce children”. The Jewish church has many views on marriage equality, some positive and some negative.
Many people that hold high power, are afraid to make a step towards marriage equality. There are some that get influenced by money, and power. For example, a New York Times article states “Over the last year people in this country have grown more aware of income inequality, of corporate influence on government, of who gets ahead and who gets thrown under the bus.” This implies that there are people that do not want many to get achieve equality only because there is money and greed involved. The article also states “Now if only elected officials would take on those issues, that would be a bold political risk.” This show that there are many people that are realizing that people with high power are not doing the job they were elected to do, which was to help the people of the state.
