My fire project issue is about marriage equality. I chose this topic for the reason that I have become aware that many people in the LGBT community were not given the same ability to marry the person they love because they are in same-sex relationship, as people in a ‘traditional’ relationship would be in. Overall, I spent countless amounts of hours working on this fire project; so many that I do not know if a minimum of 10 hours would be an appropriate number. I have had many nights where I do not go to sleep until three or four o’clock in the morning, and some nights where I had to wake up at one in the morning to continue working on the project. There were times where I did not think I would be able to finish my research paper. Often times I would feel so overwhelmed that I would start to cry and worry that I would not be able to complete my part of the project. Unfortunately, I was not that good with managing my time, as I would try to work on fire project, homework from other classes, as well as attending events where I had made a previous commitment. Some good experiences that I had while conducting research and writing the paper was, being able to find numerous amount of sources that I was able to use for both, my paper, as well as the website. I was able to gain lots of knowledge about marriage equality. While working with other people, I learned that if someone else shares the same passion and fire for the same issue as you do, then it would make the process of completing the fire project a whole lot easier, as it is a very stressful project. My goal throughout the fire project has stayed the same; I wanted to raise awareness about marriage inequality in the United States, and across the globe. I believe that I did achieve my goal as myself, and two other team members will discuss and raise awareness for the topic of marriage inequality. Something that I have mastered was, writing and completing a research paper with strong evidence and strong interpretation of the evidence. Another thing I believe I have mastered was looking for evidence that supports my thesis along with having a natural flow in paper. I am most proud of my research paper, as I have spent a lot of time and effort into making it flawless. I am also proud of the people that I have worked with, because they have spent so much time and effort on their own paper and Joseph especially for making the website impeccable. The source that helped me the most was freedomtomarry.org and The Human Right’s Campaign website was a huge while writing my research paper. Advice that I would give to student completing their fire project is to start now. Start thinking of an issue that you are passionate about, this will help you a lot. Also, start writing your philosophy of social justice, as this will give you an advantage when you are you told to start your fire project. Be prepared for many sleepless nights.
